The IRE considers it a particular responsibility to promote the economic and political relations between the regions and municipalities in Europe, to provide information and to strengthen the connection to the European Union and its institutions.

Activities of the IRE will include research, publications, seminars and conferences. The IRE aims to promote the spirit of the European Union and, at the same time, offer practical, efficient solutions.

In addition to a quarterly "IRE Newsletter", which offers a platform for members to raise and discuss problems and suggest solutions, there will be a number of other ways to contribute to the IRE (participation in working groups, joint events, symposia, publications, internet information service, etc.; and, last but not least, the opportunity for members to present their own region or organisation on our homepage). Every year a general assembly takes place in Salzburg which is connected with a special cultural event.
